  • Yield

    Makes 15 (3- by 2-inch) bars

Ingredients

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups dried pitted dates (3/4 lb), chopped
1/2 cup whole almonds (3 oz), toasted
1/3 cup sesame seeds (2 1/2 oz), toasted
1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

  1. Step 1

Whisk together flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Add dates, almonds, and sesame seeds and toss until combined. Whisk together butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla, then stir into date mixture until combined well.

    Step 3

Spread batter evenly in baking pan. Bake until golden and edges begin to pull away from sides of pan, 25 to 30 minutes. Cool completely in pan before cutting into bars.
