[Narrator] Frosting a cake.
Here is a crumb coated cake, already chilled.
First, tuck strips of parchment
to keep the cake stand clean.
To make the top coat,
you should use a clean cake spatula for this step.
Make sure you use a big dollop of frosting
so your spatula slides smoothly over it.
Spread the frosting so it's level and even,
but don't worry too much at this point
about making it smooth.
You'll do that a little later.
Then, apply the rest of the frosting
to the sides of the cake,
again, being sure to use plenty of frosting.
Use a light touch when spreading
so that you don't stir up crumbs.
To make the sides even,
gently position your spatula vertically
so it's just touching one side of the cake,
and spin the Lazy Susan all the way around.
Once you've got a nice layer of frosting
all over the cake,
let it set for about 15 minutes
so the frosting crusts just slightly.
The top coat is chilled and set.
Using a clean spatula,
dip it in to a tall glass of hot water
and towel it off.
Using the warm spatula,
smooth over the entire top
and sides of your cake.
The warm spatula will help melt the frosting slightly
so that it smooths out evenly.
Take your time with the smooth coat
because you're now working
on the last stages of your cake decorating.
Now your cake is frosted.
Carefully remove your wax strips
by pulling them gently out
from underneath the cake.
Use a firm and even touch
when pulling the strips out.
Now look at this beautiful, three layered cake.
